Today I, along with some other members of Oppo (shout out to Zipppy and thebigbossyboss) made the 90 minute drive north from Ottawa to Maniwaki, Quebec for Rally Perce-Neige. As expected the conditions were snowy and icy so there was mad oppo all over the place.
Antoine L'Estage won all 7 races in the Canadian rally championship last year, in an Evo, so I guess the only reason he's with Subaru now is because the Evo is done.
The cars have to drive between stages so after we left the start parking lot I had this thing in my mirrors. Not something you see every day!
There were a surprising number of spectators at the first viewing area!
Viewing areas were on the outside of a T intersection after a straight (400 to 6 right!) and as the first car through, L'Estage was still getting to know the course.
Found out later from another spectator that this Accent had an Evo 8 drivetrain swap... which would certainly explain why it was so much faster than any Accent before it.
After all cars had passed, we drove a few minutes up the road to the next stage, where we boarded a school bus that stopped at the 5 different viewing areas. Most were on various corners so I'll switch it up next year and try to see what else is available.
Most of the drivers were reasonably slow into the corner (over crest into 5 left!) but a few of them overcooked the entrance and put the ass end into the snowbank. Was a pretty cool place to watch as many of the cars struggled to get up the hill.
At the end of this stage we were walking back to the bus and found a media guy's Dodge Journey firmly lodged in the snowbank. Took some digging out and a firm tug from a WRX wagon to get him on his way.
In the afternoon there was another viewing stage so we set up here. Was cool to see the cars hit the straight and enter the sweeper (300 to 3 right don't cut!).
Wouldn't be rally without a fire!
This car was interesting because on the first pass before service it came screaming around the corner with the rear left wheel missing. Some cheering for that one! Also one car was a little too aggressive on the exit and spun into the ditch. Immediately about 10-15 guys tumbled down the bank to the road and pushed him out seconds before the next car came through. Rally fans are special!
These are the photos I like the best but I'm still going through them. It was a really well run event (they've been doing it for 50 years) and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Looking forward to more rallies later this year!

This car was clearly the coolest. Too bad they crashed right after turn 3 on Farley and DNF'ed.

I had David Higgins follow me a few miles from service all the way to the start of a stage at the Sesquehana Trail Performance Rally last year. I missed the turn for the spectator point without knowing it and kept driving until I saw him turn off towards the stage start line. A weird feeling looking in my rear-view mirror and seeing a race car there, and a fast one no less. At one point we were both stuck behind a slow moving RV and I had to wonder "If I'm mad right now, I wonder what it feels like to go this slow in a race car"

I thought about what it might feel like to be stuck going slow, but then I remembered that in a few minutes he'll be able to go balls out on gravel so I'm sure a little extra time is OK.

Sorry to bug you again but was it the 5th stage (Blue Sea 2) that you got that picture of L'Stage getting into the burm? He 15th that stage so I was wondering if this could of been the time he lost it!

I believe that was the 2nd stage, Blue Sea. He didn't lose a lot of time, he just clipped the berm more than the others.

He got a flat in this stage I think.
